National Public Health Week

April 6-12 is National Public Health Week. The Office of Public Health is partnering with the HR Benefits and Wellness team and the Occupational Health team to offer an on-campus vaccine clinic and health screening. The first event on Wednesday, April 8 is an on- campus vaccine clinic for community members who need immunizations or are unable to locate their immunization documentation. The second event on Friday, April 10th, is specifically for community members with Kaiser Permanente health insurance plans, and will offer health assessment screenings. Kaiser members will also be able to receive immunizations based on their health records and consultation with a provider.

Safeway Vaccine Clinic – April 8th, Leavey Program Room, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

At our April 8 on-campus Safeway clinic, you will be able to receive common vaccinations, such as:

Please consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist to determine which vaccinations are right for you. Knowing and documenting your immunization status is crucial for your health and well-being, particularly in the event of exposure to infectious diseases. If exposed to some infectious diseases, like measles, quarantine is required if you do not have this documentation.

Health Insurance Coverage

Please note that you will need to provide your health insurance member ID and Rx or prescription card(s) (if your plan’s pharmacy benefits are managed separately) at the vaccine clinic. Although most health insurance plans cover vaccines at no cost to you, you will be responsible for covering co-pays or costs associated with any vaccines received at the clinic. For staff and faculty covered under a Georgetown University-sponsored health plan, you can learn more about getting your vaccine on the following websites:

For students enrolled in Georgetown University Student Health Insurance (SHI), please present your health insurance ID card.

Please note: Kaiser Permanente will NOT cover the cost of immunizations received at the Safeway vaccine clinic. All co-pays or costs not covered by insurance are the responsibility of the receiving individual.

If you are currently uninsured, please contact your local health department for a list of free or low-cost resources.

Scheduling a Vaccination Appointment

You can schedule your vaccination appointment on the Safeway Pharmacy website by following the steps below:

  1. On the “Vaccine Scheduler” landing page, click “Proceed to Booking.”
  2. On the next page, enter your date of birth and zip code, and click “Continue.”
  3. Select the vaccine(s) that you wish to receive, and click “Continue.”
  4. Select the vaccine clinic location, date and time for your appointment, and click “Continue.”
  5. Enter your personal information, and click “Continue.” (Note: You will be asked a number of required questions. This information is for Safeway Pharmacy’s use as part of regulatory reporting and will not be shared with Georgetown University.)
  6. Review your personal information and appointment details, including location, date and time, and provide your immunization consent. Click “Submit” when you are finished, and you will receive a confirmation email.
  7. Please bring your Rx card and health insurance cards to your appointment. A digital copy of your Rx card and insurance card is acceptable.

Walk-ins are accepted on a limited basis; however, we may ask you to return at a later time during the day if it’s busy. Vaccines are stocked based on appointments, so vaccine availability is not guaranteed for walk-ins.

Kaiser Permanente Health Clinic – April 10, Kaiser Mobile Health Vehicle (parked by Harbin Hall), 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

At our April 10th event, Kaiser Permanente members will be offered health screenings for blood pressure, BMI, diabetes (A1c) and cholesterol. The Kaiser team will review your medical history, assess your health needs and goals, and offer health education. If you want to receive a vaccine, such as MMR, please send a message to your healthcare provider in the Kaiser portal prior to April 10. Your doctor will need to review your records and request any vaccination(s) you would like to receive. Please note, in instances where you have partially completed a vaccine series, you may be offered a titer to test for immunity to the disease(s), rather than the vaccine(s).

For Kaiser members, you can schedule an appointment for the Kaiser Mobile Vehicle by following the steps below:

  1. Enter your email, name, date of birth, phone number, and Kaiser Permanente eligibility and click “ Save & Continue.”
  2. You will receive an email notification to continue the registration process.
  3. Create a new password and then click “Save & Continue.”
  4. Review and agree to the HIPAA authorization to continue.
  5. From the onsite screening section, select “Choose Event.”
  6. Select one of the available times between 12 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. and click “Schedule.” You will receive an email confirmation with your selected appointment time.
  7. Please arrive on time for your appointment with your Kaiser Permanente member ID card.

Scheduling an appointment is highly recommended. Walk-ins are accepted, but there is a 50-person limit for the 4-hour timeframe.

Knowing Your Immunization Status and Documentation

If you don’t know your vaccination history or status, you can reach out to your healthcare provider or check the immunization registry of the state where you received your vaccines (here are helpful links for DC, VA and MD). If you are still unable to find your documentation after trying these steps, consider getting vaccinated. Staff and faculty are welcome to voluntarily report their immunization status to the university. If you would like to do so, please send your documentation containing your name, date of birth and vaccine documentation to employeeimmunizations@georgetown.edu. This is a HIPAA-compliant upload source, and records will be kept in accordance with Georgetown policy.

For any faculty or staff who are alumni, if you were 25 years old or younger when you enrolled in an in-person program at Georgetown, you may have already provided your vaccine documentation to the university via the Immunization Portal, which opened in 2019. You can access the portal again to download your records. If your records are not available, please reach out via secure message in the portal to inquire further.  Students without vaccine requirements can voluntarily upload their immunization records to the Immunization Portal.

Please contact the Office of Public Health at publichealth@georgetown.edu with general questions or for further guidance on public health matters.
